Terms of Service
1. Overview
NewsScraper ("the Service") is a news curation and aggregation service. We collect publicly available headlines and links from third-party news publishers and present them in a unified interface. We are not a news publisher and do not produce original news content.
2. Third-Party Content
All headlines, images, and associated article content displayed on the Service belong to their respective original publishers. The Service displays only headlines, thumbnail images, and links that direct users to the original source for the full article. The Service does not store, host, or reproduce full article text. We make no claim of ownership over any third-party content.
All trademarks, logos, and brand names displayed on the Service are the property of their respective owners and are used only for identification and attribution purposes.
3. User Accounts
You may create an account by authenticating through a supported OAuth provider (Apple, Google, GitHub). By creating an account, you agree to provide accurate information and to safeguard your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to: (a) violate any applicable law or regulation; (b) interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers; (c) attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service; or (d) scrape, mirror, or redistribute the Service's aggregated feed without permission.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any headline or link displayed on the Service. News content originates from third parties; we are not responsible for the accuracy or reliability of that content.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, NewsScraper and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the Service, including any reliance on third-party content displayed through the Service.
7. Content Removal
If you are a rights holder and believe content displayed on the Service infringes your rights, please follow the process outlined in the Content Takedown Policy below.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
9. Contact
For questions about these Terms, please contact us through the support channels listed on the site.
Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how NewsScraper ("we," "us," "the Service") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Service. We believe in collecting as little personal data as possible.
2. Information We Collect
When you authenticate through a supported OAuth provider (Apple, Google, or GitHub), we receive and store:
- Your name (as provided by the OAuth provider)
- Your email address
- Your avatar/profile image URL
- A provider-specific user identifier (Apple ID, Google ID, or GitHub ID)
We also store your site preferences (theme choice, column layout) and a record of articles you have saved, if any.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your password (authentication is handled by OAuth providers).
- We do not collect payment information directly; any donations or subscriptions are processed by third-party payment providers with their own privacy policies.
- We do not store the full text of any third-party articles.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and maintain your session
- To personalize your experience (themes, layout, saved items)
- To communicate important updates about the Service
- To improve the Service and detect abuse
5. Cookies and Session Data
We use cookies only as required for authentication sessions (standard Laravel session cookies). If we add third-party analytics or advertising services in the future, this policy will be updated to reflect those changes.
6. Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. OAuth providers (Apple, Google, GitHub) handle initial authentication — their privacy policies govern data handled on their platforms. The Service displays headlines and links from third-party news publishers; clicking a link takes you to the publisher's site, which is subject to their own privacy practices.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us via the support channels listed on the site. We will respond to verified requests within a reasonable timeframe.
Users in the European Union have additional rights under the GDPR, and users in California have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what information is collected and to request deletion.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, we will remove your personal information from our database within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service.
11. Contact
For questions about this Privacy Policy or to exercise your rights, please contact us through the support channels listed on the site.
Content Takedown / DMCA Policy
Overview
NewsScraper respects the intellectual property rights of others. The Service displays only headlines, thumbnail images, and links to original sources — it does not host or reproduce full article content. Nevertheless, if you are a rights holder and believe that material displayed on the Service infringes your rights, we provide a clear process for requesting removal.
Filing a Takedown Request
To submit a takedown request, please send a written notice containing the following information:
- Identification of the copyrighted work: A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
- Identification of the material to be removed: The URL or direct link to the specific headline or item on the Service that you want removed, with enough detail for us to locate it.
- Your contact information: Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A good-faith statement: A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- An accuracy statement: A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.
- Your signature: A physical or electronic signature.
Where to Send Requests
Please submit takedown requests through the support contact channels listed on the site. We will acknowledge valid requests and take appropriate action within a reasonable timeframe — typically within 5–10 business days.
Counter-Notices
If you believe that content was removed in error, you may submit a counter-notice containing similar information (identification of the material, your contact information, and a statement under penalty of perjury that the removal was a result of mistake or misidentification).
Good-Faith Commitment
We aim to maintain good-faith relationships with the publishers whose content we aggregate. The Service is designed to drive traffic back to original sources, benefiting publishers through increased readership. If you are a publisher with concerns about how your content is displayed, we welcome direct dialogue before any formal takedown request.
Repeat Infringers
We reserve the right to remove any source or content that is the subject of repeated or confirmed infringement claims.
